Thi Qar Province Reaches 110 Thousands b/d Oil Production

Thi Qar Oilfields Authority a subsidiary of South Oil company announced that it reached 110,000 barrels per day oil production capacity.

The province has two main oilfields, Gharraf oilfield located north of the province, Nasiriya oilfield located in the middle, in addition to Sabba oilfield which is under development.

On this December Gharraf Oilfield reached 70,000 barrels per day from 35,000 barrels per day last month, while Nasiriya Oilfield produces 40,000 barrels per day, making the total production of Thi Qar province’s oilfields 110,000 barrels per day.

The new Iraqi laws allows the provincial governments to establish its own local public sector oil companies when province reaches a 100,000 barrels per day oil production, example for that the Maysan Oil Company when it became independent from south oil company and now produces more than 230,000 barrels per day.

It worth mentioning that the Iraqi PM Nori Al-Maliky promised Thi Qar province’s officials when he officially opened the commercial production in Ghrraf field in September 2013, to support them in establishing Thi Qar Oil company when they reached the designated production capacity.
