Two Explosions in North Rumaila Oilfield Area

Official sources in Basra stated that two explosions occurred in North Rumaila complex, one of Basra province's biggest oil production oilfields.

The first which was a locally made IED, targeted the British AEGIS security company which provides security to Schlumberger and baker Hughes oil services companies working in Basra.

One of the convoy's armed vehicles was severely damaged, and the company transferred it instantly  to its headquarters along with the convoy's staff.

The second explosion took place in an office caravan owned EDGO, a Jordanian company sub-contracted with Schlumberger.

Both explosions did not result in human casualties, but there were considerable property damages.

Rumaila Field Operating Organization (ROO), a joint venture between BP, CNPC and SOMO is running the oilfield area, it has tight security procedures that limits entry to the field.

The explosions came simultaneity with the fourth and last day with the 4th Basra Oil & Gas conference and Exhibition, the largest oil development related event in the southern Iraq, with 350 international companies participating from 35 countries.
